A Social Mission Beyond Education
Imperial European University (IEU-Paris) is expanding its role beyond higher education by launching a major Diabetes Awareness & Prevention Initiative, a global social cause aimed at educating communities, promoting early testing, and supporting research to combat one of the world’s fastest-growing health challenges.
With nearly 40% of the world’s population affected by diabetes or at risk, IEU believes universities must play an active role in addressing major global health issues. Through community engagement, partnerships, and public awareness programs, the university aims to drive meaningful change in prevention, early detection, and healthier lifestyles.
Education With Social Impact
While IEU-Paris focuses on delivering high-quality academic programs and professional certifications, the university leadership has committed to integrating social responsibility and public health advocacy into its mission.
According to Dr Jatin Anand, Director General of IEU-Paris:
“Imperial European University is deeply committed to supporting initiatives that improve community health and wellbeing. Our collaboration with global diabetes awareness efforts allows us to contribute through research, awareness programs, charity initiatives, and community engagement.”
The university believes that education, research, and public awareness can play a powerful role in preventing chronic diseases such as diabetes.
Supporting Global Diabetes Awareness
The initiative is carried forward by Right Honourable Keith Vaz, President of IEU-Paris and a long-time advocate for public health awareness.
In 2007, he founded Silver Star Diabetes, a charity dedicated to raising awareness about diabetes, encouraging early testing, and supporting global community outreach programs.
The organization’s first patron was renowned Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, who helped amplify the cause internationally.

Since its establishment, Silver Star Diabetes has expanded its operations beyond the United Kingdom and has conducted impactful projects across:
- India
- Bangladesh
- Morocco
- Tunisia
These initiatives aim to educate communities about diabetes risks, prevention strategies, and the importance of early diagnosis.
More details about the charity’s global work can be found on the official website of Silver Star Diabetes.
Community Outreach in the United Kingdom
IEU-Paris has supported several community-focused diabetes awareness programs organized by Silver Star Diabetes.
Diabetes Awareness Day – Leicester
At an outreach event held outside HBL Bank, community members were invited to participate in free diabetes screening and BMI testing.
The event was attended by Dorothy, the MDU representative, who helped coordinate public engagement and encourage individuals to understand their health status.
These free testing initiatives help identify early signs of diabetes and promote preventative healthcare practices.

Diabetes Village – Community Health Initiative
Another major awareness event took place at the Merlyn Vaz Centre, where community members participated in the Diabetes Village program.
Activities included:
- Free diabetes blood testing
- BMI and health assessments
- Educational discussions on diabetes prevention
- Public health awareness sessions
Street testing initiatives were also conducted to ensure that people from all walks of life had easy access to early diagnosis and health guidance.
Charity Walks and Awareness Campaigns Across Europe
As part of its long-term commitment to the cause, Imperial European University has begun organizing charity walks and awareness campaigns across Europe.
These events aim to:
- Promote healthy lifestyles and physical activity
- Encourage regular diabetes screening
- Raise funds for diabetes research and awareness programs
- Build stronger community engagement around preventive healthcare
Through these initiatives, IEU hopes to mobilize students, faculty, healthcare professionals, and communities to work together in tackling the global diabetes epidemic.

Research, Awareness, and Community Health
IEU-Paris plans to expand its efforts through:
- Academic research on diabetes prevention and lifestyle management
- Public health awareness campaigns
- Student and faculty volunteer programs
- Partnerships with international health charities
By combining education, research, and community outreach, the university hopes to contribute to reducing diabetes prevalence and improving global health outcomes.
Building Healthier Communities for the Future
The leadership at Imperial European University believes that universities should not only educate future leaders but also actively contribute to solving global challenges.
With the continued support of Silver Star Diabetes and the guidance of Keith Vaz, IEU-Paris is committed to expanding its diabetes awareness programs internationally.
Through charity initiatives, free health screenings, educational outreach, and research collaboration, the university aims to empower communities with knowledge, prevention tools, and access to health resources.
